Department of Environmental Science, Lahore College for Women University conducted a seminar on "Smog Awareness" on November 17, 2023 aligned with the Air Quality Awareness Week 2023 , aimed to address the critical issue of smog in Lahore. Professor Dr. Zulfiqar Ali from the *Department of Zoology, University of Punjab*, served as the guest speaker, providing profound insights into the Health Impacts, sources and challenges posed by smog. He also highlighted the escalating problem of crop burning in Lahore as a major cause of smog. *Miss Nadia Tahir, Director Environment, Ravi urban Development Authority*, delivered a presentation shedding light on the contribution of multiple industries burning materials to the smog issue in Lahore. Additionally, *Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali* discussed ongoing research by students, focusing on the impact of smog and air pollution on animals and birds like Black kite followed by an interactive session with students for practical solutions of this critical issue of smog. The seminar also provided detailed information on *instruments* for measuring the *Air Quality Index* , specifically *particulate matter* *2.5* and *10*, NOx, SOx, Carbon Monoxide equipping the audience with practical tools for monitoring air quality. *Prof. Dr. Arifa Tahir Chairperson Environment Science Department* concluded the seminar with her remarks and motivated the students to be responsible as an environmentalist and a responsible citizen to overcome such Environmental issues. The comprehensive presentations and discussions underscored the significance challenges posed by smog and air pollution in Lahore *********November 16, 2023: Startup Institute powered by DigiCon Valley emerged as a highly impactful event, meticulously orchestrated under the guidance of Dr. Ayesha Iqbal, Ms. Farah Saleem Qureshi, Mr. Muhammad Yousaf, Ms. Nadia Tahir from K-BIC Team, and the enterprising members of the Entrepreneurial Club. The event served as a crucial component of pre-incubation training for prospective applicants of Cohort 2023, laying the foundation for their entrepreneurial journey. The event started with a respectful and inclusive moment by reciting the Holy Quran. Afterward, it welcomed impressive Guest speakers Mr. Waleed, Managing Director of Digicon Valley, and Mr. Talha Senior Digital Marketer. Mr. Waleed dived deep into the startup world, covering topics like strategic financial investments, building a strong team, and having a solid business model. Furthermore, Mr. Talha imparted valuable insights into the realm of digital marketing. His comprehensive discussion covered various facets, such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), an array of platforms, meticulous planning, and effective strategies geared toward reaching and engaging the intended audience. The discourse delved into the specifics of Social Media Marketing (SMM) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), shedding light on the intricacies of these pivotal avenues. Additionally, He provided guidance on crafting an optimal elevator pitch, rounding out a session rich in actionable knowledge and expertise. This workshop further featured an engaging questionnaire session, affording students a unique opportunity to interact directly with the guest speakers. This open forum facilitated in-depth discussions, allowing participants to seek clarification on various aspects of startups and entrepreneurship. This interactive element added a valuable dimension to the workshop. Notably, Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University Dr. Shagufta Naz has also visited this workshop to boost the student’s enthusiasm. Dr. Saima Farhan, the Chairperson of the Computer Science Department, along with her esteemed faculty members, contributed their expertise to the session, enhancing the depth of knowledge and insights shared. The event concluded on a positive note as Dr. Faiza Saleem, the Director of ORIC at Lahore College for Women University, presented souvenirs to the esteemed guests in appreciation of their participation. The event also had a ceremony to give out certifications, proving the knowledge gained and connections made during the event. The combined efforts of the speakers, organizers, and participants truly made this workshop a huge success.***********Department of Pakistan Studies organised a seminar on "Iqbal Vision for youth and Muslim Ummah" on the eve of Iqbal Day. Dr. Ghazi M. Abdullah from history department of Punjab University, was the key note speaker, shed light on hidden truths of Iqbal and clear many misconceptions regarding Iqbal's personality. It was very informative and provoking lecture on Iqbal poetry and thoughts about the role of youth to develop the society. Our respected colleagues from the departments of History and Home Economics also joined us. Students too participated with enthusiasm.********* LCWU takes pride in organizing Quran classes accessible to all BS I students. Physical classes for semester 1 students are scheduled every Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, spanning a period of 10 weeks. Considering the student population, the physical classes are divided into two phases. Phase 1 will include students from various faculties, encompassing Science and Technology, Engineering and Technology, Management and Administrative Sciences, and Islamic and Oriental Learning. Following the completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 will commence, featuring students from Pharmaceutical and Allied Health Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, and Education. The esteemed Dr. Qalb e Bashir Khawer Butt, a distinguished academician, will be conducting the classes at the Iqra Auditorium. The university extends heartfelt appreciation to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Shagufta Naz for her unwavering support in making these Quran classes possible. Attendance for students is obligatory throughout the duration of the classes.
