The Department of Mass Communication, LCWU, offers BS-Regular, BS-Self Support Program, MS and PhD degrees and Diploma in Development Support Communication. It has qualified (local and foreign degree holder) faculty to teach and train students, promote inquiry and advance the knowledge. The undergraduate program offers both insightful academic study of the media and preparation for professional careers in digital media, broadcast media, advertising, and public relations along with development sector. Moreover graduate and post graduate programs entail theory and research practically on contemporary issues of mass communication through critical, cultural, historical, legal, ethical, and social scientific approaches. While pursuing the demands of media industry, the department has established television and FM studios along with a campus radio FM 96.6, ‘Voice of LCWU and Web TV’; advertising and computer laboratories; non-linear editing and photographic laboratories; master control room and outdoor production van which are equipped with the latest and state of the art equipment for hands on experience of the students. Resultantly the department is successfully producing women media professionals for the market who absorbs there without any further training. Therefore our graduates occupy leadership positions in key communication industries and professional areas, self-employed or pursue teaching careers at the college and university levels. Today, communication is the center of economic and social activity and a significant factor in production as capital, labor or land. Hence, it is inevitable to train our youth for the challenges of this information age in order to survive and progress. D Mass Communication Diploma · Diploma in Development Support Communication (Self Supporting) BS Program (Morning and Self-Supporting) Duration: 4 years Total Credit Hours: 136 Eligibility Criteria for BS (Morning and Self-Supporting Program) Mass Communication offers professional degrees in the field of communication. Candidates securing at least 60% marks in intermediate are eligible to apply. MS Program (Research Track) Eligibility Criteria for MS · BS / MA in Mass Communication · Written Entry Test and Interview. · All other requirements as per University policy. Duration: 2 years Total Credit Hours: 36 Learning Objectives To give insight of the latest as well as emerging approaches in the field of Mass Communication besides imparting knowledge of the latest techniques of research to students. To enable them to critically evaluate the control, contents and impact of media by applying their learning of media theories and communication research. To enhance their skills of making optimum use of available information. Outcomes The degree holders will be ready to enter in the field of teaching along with research and media organizations as skilled media professionals with a clear theoretical and practical understanding of research and will be technically trained to work in media industry. They will be having enhanced critical and analytical abilities and will be able to apply their capabilities in the field of mass communication. MS Program (Professional Track) Eligibility Criteria for MS · BS / MA in Mass Communication · Written Entry Test and Interview. · All other requirements as per University policy. Duration: 2 years Total Credit Hours: 36 Learning Objectives To give insight of the latest as well as emerging approaches in the field of Mass Communication besides imparting knowledge of the latest techniques of Production to students. To enable the future media professionals to critically evaluate the control, contents and impact of media by applying their learning of media theories and communication research. D Mass Communication Duration: 3 to 5 years Total Credit Hours: 18 Learning Objectives Ph. D in Mass Communication will focus on extending knowledge and encompassing new & Modern theories and research methods for upcoming teachers and researchers. Outcomes In line with the program objectives, students do well in their coursework, demonstrating mastery of knowledge objective engage in research activities (including conference presentations, publications and grant writing), and demonstrate overall competence by obtaining high quality post-doctoral positions. Eligibility Criteria: · Female candidates with minimum 18 years of education (MS/M. Phil) or equivalent in the relevant discipline. · All other requirements as per University Admission Policy (Please see University eligibility criteria for Ph. D admission). · Qualifying entry test and interview* organized by University are mandatory for admission. · Candidates working in both government and non-governmental institutions are required to provide NOC from their concerned organization. *Qualifying marks 70% as per HEC. Diploma in Development Support Communication Duration: 01 Year Learning Objectives · To produce vision-oriented development communication professionals and educators with solid foundations in the field of development journalism, communication and support communication. · To establish a permanent source of producing skillful professionals to meet the departmental challenges of today and tomorrow. Outcomes The diploma holders will be able to join NGOs and institution/organizations with field of specialization like, Development Journalism, Development communication, etc. They can be hired by national and international levels public and private sector organizations e.g. human resource departments, women development and health departments, etc. Further they will be able to work as free lance researcher/communication strategy designers. Developmental/research reports written particularly for UNICEF, WHO, UNESCO, etc. Eligibility: · Bachelors Degree 2 year/4 years in Social Sciences Facilities WebTV Department of Mass Communication Launched LCWU Web TV. The purpose of this Web TV is to create awareness among 14000 students in particular and public at large regarding corona virus pandemic. During this difficult time it was decided to communicate with pertinent audiences through the Web TV. Launch of Web TV would uplift the standard of higher education culture through digital means. It would bridge the communication within teachers and students and also serve as source of education/counseling services to citizens It broadcast all the Conferences, Seminars, Symposiums, and Lectures to be held at the University. Over 14,000 students will get direct benefit from the project TV Studios To impart professional media education, state of the art equipment is a necessary requirement thus working and professionally built T.V and FM studios were built to give the students easy to access facilities and technical equipment. The TV studio has three Sony D50 studio camera, three camcorder PD170, two D90 still camera and two hand held 3CCD cameras along with a well set up arrangement of colored trim studio lights. Advertising and computer laboratories, non-linear editing and photographic laboratories and MCR along with facility of OB van were established under the project of HEC and the department was shifted to the new building in 2008. Radio FM 96.6 Our radio station F.M 96.6 Voice of LCWU is in its third year of airing and is running a daily three-hour transmission from 11:00am to 2:00pm which repeats from 2:00 to 5:00pm. The facility of F.M radio of the department is not only training the aspiring journalists rather it is acting as an information cell of the university. Advertising Lab Department has a lab devoted for advertising students to develop their creative skills in the field of Advertising and to complete their projects. Photography Lab A photography lab is established to give students practical learning and experience in the field of Photography Computer Lab The department has Computer Labs equipped with latest technology.
